Vintage sewing books

Vintage craft books

I love vintage finds – especially when they are craft related! I have to admit that these were not actually my finds, but Tom’s πŸ™‚ He found them in the second hand bookshop during our visit to Clumber Park a couple of weeks ago, and thought that I would love them. I do, and at Β£1 they were a steal! I’ve put together a little gallery of photos here to show you just how lovely these books are. Continue reading…

I discovered Flow magazine through Instagram – I kept seeing beautiful photos of things that were in the latest issue! Then I discovered that they had issued a special book to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the magazine. How could I resist?!Β  Continue reading…

Aubergine Parmigiana

20140206-172704.jpg

Until fairly recently, I wasn’t a huge fan of aubergine (or eggplant, if you prefer). But we had a delicious meal on honeymoon that changed my idea about it – one day I’m going to try to recreate it! Helen came to stay with us last weekend and I wanted to try out a new veggie recipe for her, and I chose this one from ‘The Food of the Mediterranean’ by Murdoch Books. It does involve frying the aubergine in batches, so I’m going to give a little warning: if, like us,Β you don’t have an extractor fan in your kitchen, this will probably stink out your house!Β It is, however, a really delicious recipeΒ so it was worth it! The original recipe given here serves 8 people – I made it with 3 aubergines and the same amounts for the rest of the ingredients for 3 people, and that seemed to work well. The photo here doesn’t do it justice – sorry for the blurryness, I was hungry when I took it! πŸ™‚ Continue reading…

Jamie Oliver’s Beef Stroganoff

20140130-210454.jpg

As many of you will already know, I’m a huge fan of Jamie Oliver’s recipes. I’ve blogged about a few of his recipes in the past, perhaps the most popular being the pork marsala with mushroom rice. That recipe, and this beef stroganoff, are taken from his 15 Minute Meals book. Many people have said that the recipes take a little longer than 15 minutes, but this stroganoff was super quick! I’d definitely recommend it for a weeknight treat. Continue reading…

Making my first stamps

20140126-170655.jpg

Making my own rubber stamps was one of my top crafty plans for 2014, and today I had my first attempt! I received this amazing book for my birthday (thank you Helen and Keith!) – ‘Making an Impression‘ by Geninne D. Zlatkis. The photos are so inspiring and the instructions throughout the book are really clear, so if you’re a beginner or more experienced I’d highly recommend it! I really love these stationery ideas: Continue reading…
